Food Production Operative
We are looking for a Food Production Operative to help us in the production kitchen to make our delicious, awesome-tasting, award-winning craft preserves!
- Job Title: Food Production Operative
- Reports to: the Director & the Warehouse and Distribution Manager
- Location: Unit 8 & 9, Station Road Workshops, Station Road, Kingswood, Bristol BS15 4PJ
- Hours: 37.5 hours / week
- Salary: £23,809.50 – £24,500 p/a depending on experience
- Responsible for: N/A
- Start date: immediate
- Job Purpose: To support our food manufacturing operations.
About the role:
This is a fast-paced role, that requires you to be on your feet most of the day. You will be fully trained and put through your Level 2 Food Hygiene course. 1 year’s experience of working in kitchens is essential.
About GingerBeard’s Preserves:
GingerBeard’s Preserves was founded in a one-bed basement flat in Montpellier, Bristol in 2014 by Harry Calvert and Claire Charras. The mission is to bring our awesome-tasting preserves and sauces to the people of Bristol and beyond. We are a small batch and independent, now producing around 200,000 units a year, by hand, in our unit in Kingswood, Bristol.
Main Functions of Post
As Food Production Operative, you will:
- Follow food production standard operating procedures
- Support with the production of a range of preserves, sauces, condiments and jams
- Be involved in all aspects of manufacturing from preparing raw ingredients to bottling, capping and labelling the finished product
- Clean tools, equipment and lines
- Comply with food safety regulations and procedures
- Record traceability information
General:
- Contribute to continuous improvements of the business as part of team meetings
- Comply with health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Comply with environmental and sustainability regulations and procedures
- Be involved in the control, monitoring and rotation of stock
- Receive and process incoming orders of raw ingredients
Skills and Experience
- Ability to do a physically demanding role.
- A good level of maths and English
- A good level of IT
- Minimum 1 year’s experience working in kitchens, catering or food preparation or similar
- A passion for local food, drink and cooking is a bonus!
Person Specification
- Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with a range of people (both internally and externally).
- Able to follow work instructions, verbal or written
- Good attention to detail and good time management skills
- A commitment to teamwork and working in a collegiate manner
- Enthusiastic, diplomatic and calm under pressure

Sales Assistant (Seasonal) / Market Staff
- £12 / hour + holiday pay + bonus
- Variable weekend work (Summer & Christmas)

Overview:
GingerBeard’s Preserves is looking for a reliable and enthusiastic person to sell our products at food festivals and markets.
The successful candidate needs to be self-motivated, organised and have excellent customer service. This is an active role where you will be required to set-up and break down the market stall, lift boxes and load and unload a vehicle on your own.
The right person will be keen to be part of a small, independent and growing company and passionate about the local food and drink scene (beard not compulsory!).

The role:
As Sales Assistant you will be responsible for all aspects of running a market stall for the day (setting up a gazebo, setting up tables and shelves for product display, sales, breaking down, and loading/unloading vehicle).
You will be responsible for:
- Collecting stock from the unit before the event;
- Setting up and breaking down the stall according to training;
- Keeping the stall clean, tidy, well-presented and well-stocked;
- Serving customers & taking payments.
Daily hours will vary depending on the duration and location of each market, on average this is a 10-hour day. You can be flexible with your choice of days.
You will be expected to travel across the South West and must have a clean driving licence and be able to use your own vehicle (mileage reimbursed) to collect stock from the unit and go to the events.
You will be fully trained up and shadow one of the team for a day.
Person specification:
- You will have excellent customer service and sales experience, good communication skills and a desire to become an ambassador for the company
- You will be able to work independently with minimum supervision whilst displaying a team player attitude. You will have the ability to take initiative and work proactively.
- This is a physically demanding role so you need to be physically fit.
- You will need to be flexible with working hours and willing to travel.
- You will be interested and willing to learn about all our product range in order to skilfully inform customers on the market stall.
- You will be confident, trustworthy, self-motivated and well organised.
- A passion for local food, drink and cooking is a bonus!
- Some experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
- A full, clean driving licence is essential.
- Access to own vehicle is essential, but we will endeavour to give you access to the company van as often as possible.
Salary & Company Benefits
