Sales Assistant (Seasonal) / Market Staff

  • £12.60 / hour + holiday pay + bonus
  • Variable weekend work (Summer & Christmas)

Overview:

GingerBeard’s Preserves is looking for a reliable and enthusiastic person to sell our products at food festivals and markets.

The successful candidate needs to be self-motivated, organised and have excellent customer service. This is an active role where you will be required to set-up and break down the market stall, lift boxes and load and unload a vehicle on your own.

The right person will be keen to be part of a small, independent and growing company and passionate about the local food and drink scene (beard not compulsory!).

About GingerBeard’s Preserves:

GingerBeard’s Preserves was founded in a one-bed basement flat in Montpellier, Bristol in 2014 by Harry Calvert and Claire Charras. The mission is to bring our awesome-tasting preserves and sauces to the people of Bristol and beyond. We are a small batch and independent, now producing around 200,000 units a year, by hand, in our unit in Kingswood, Bristol.

The role:

As Sales Assistant you will be responsible for all aspects of running a market stall for the day (setting up a gazebo, setting up tables and shelves for product display, sales, breaking down, and loading/unloading vehicle).

You will be responsible for:

  • Collecting stock from the unit before the event;
  • Setting up and breaking down the stall according to training;
  • Keeping the stall clean, tidy, well-presented and well-stocked;
  • Serving customers & taking payments.

Daily hours will vary depending on the duration and location of each market, on average this is a 10-hour day. You can be flexible with your choice of days.

You will be expected to travel across the South West and must have a clean driving licence and be able to use your own vehicle (mileage reimbursed) to collect stock from the unit and go to the events. 

You will be fully trained up and shadow one of the team for a day.

Person specification:

  • You will have excellent customer service and sales experience, good communication skills and a desire to become an ambassador for the company
  • You will be able to work independently with minimum supervision whilst displaying a team player attitude. You will have the ability to take initiative and work proactively.
  • This is a physically demanding role so you need to be physically fit.
  • You will need to be flexible with working hours and willing to travel.
  • You will be interested and willing to learn about all our product range in order to skilfully inform customers on the market stall.
  • You will be confident, trustworthy, self-motivated and well organised.
  • A passion for local food, drink and cooking is a bonus!
  • Some experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
  • A full, clean driving licence is essential.
  • Access to own vehicle is essential, but we will endeavour to give you access to the company van as often as possible.

Warehouse and Distribution Operative

Job Purpose:

To maintain and increase GingerBeard’s Preserves reputation for excellent customer service and product dispatch, supporting the Warehouse and Distribution Manager.

  • Job Title: Warehouse and Distribution Operative
  • Reports to: Warehouse and Distribution Manager
  • Location: Unit 8, Station Road Workshops, Station Road, Kingswood, Bristol BS15 4PJ
  • Responsible for: N/A
  • Hours: 22.5 hours per week with potential for increased hours over peak periods. Expected working days Wednesday & Fridays. During training period, Tuesdays then moving to Thursdays.
  • Pay: £12.60 per hour + holiday pay
  1. Main Functions of Post

As Warehouse and Distribution Operative, you will be responsible for:

  • Processing and packaging retail and wholesale orders primarily coming through the website; checking for accuracy and quality against the order; updating and maintaining internal systems both manual and electronic.
  • Receiving goods and orders from our suppliers, checking for accuracy and quality against orders; proper and safe storage in the appropriate place; updating and maintaining internal systems both manual and electronic.
  • Moving/organising goods into the warehouse, ensuring correct stock rotation throughout production processes.
  • Flexibility to cross-train as necessary to help in different parts of the production, packaging and logistics operations.
  • Occasional deliveries in and around the Bristol area using a company vehicle.

General:

  • Take on any other responsibilities as may reasonably be required from time to time.
  • Manage and respond to enquiries coming through orders inbox as required.
  • Labelling products, updating and maintaining internal systems both manual and electronic.
  1. Skills and Experience
  • Ability to correctly and efficiently process and pack orders, following the company’s instructional sheets, demonstrating excellent organisational skills.
  • Good understanding of IT to process orders online through our website and through our couriers’ site when needed.
  • Good attention to detail is essential to ensure products are sent to the correct customer and in line with the customer order.
  • Able to do a physically active role with lots of heavy lifting.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision whilst displaying a team player attitude.
  • Ability to do some local deliveries from time to time, both for retail and wholesale customers and have a good level of customer service.
  • A passion for local food, drink and cooking is a bonus!
  • Experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
  • A full, clean driving licence is preferable.
