THE GREAT BRISTOL PICKLED EGG HUNT
Good Friday 3 April 2026 – Easter Monday 6 April 2026
Forget foil-wrapped chocolate hidden in the garden that you may never find. This Easter, Bristol’s got something better: a city-wide pickled egg trail, pints, and the chance to win a jar of the good stuff. Here’s everything you need to know.
What is it?
The Great Bristol Pickled Egg Hunt is a self-guided food trail running across the Easter long weekend, from Good Friday to Easter Monday. We’ve teamed up with a brilliant collection of Bristol pubs and venues that already serve our GingerBeard’s Preserves pickled eggs, and we’re turning them into stops on an interactive map for you to explore.
The idea is simple: grab your friends, head out across Bristol, visit the pubs on the trail, and check in as you go. No tickets, no bookings, no fuss — just great pubs, great eggs, and a long weekend to fill.
How do you take part?
1 – Find the Map
Follow our Padlet map to discover all the participating pubs across Bristol (see below)
2 – Visit Pubs on the Trail
Pop in, order a pint (or a soft-drink that’s allowed too), and enjoy GingerBeard’s Preserves pickled eggs – look out for the Cocoa Pickled Eggs!
3 – Check in as you go
Tag us and the pub on Instagram (stories or post as you prefer) using #GingerBeardTrail — or leave a comment on the map if Instagram isn’t your thing.
4 – Hit five venues
Check in at five different stops and you’re in the draw for a prize.
The rules (simple, we promise)
- Visit at least five different venues on the trail over the Easter weekend.
- At each stop, post on Instagram tagging @GingerBeardsPreserves and the pub, using #GingerBeardTrail – or drop a comment on the Padlet map if you’re not on Instagram. Show us the pickled eggs!
- Make sure we can see your check-ins — public posts or map comments both count.
- Once you’ve hit five venues, you’re automatically entered into the prize draw. That’s it!
What can you win?
Complete the five-venue challenge and you’ll be in with a chance of winning one of 10 free jars of Ginger Beard’s pickled eggs, the very same ones you’ll be enjoying on the trail.
Ten lucky winners will be chosen from everyone who completes the challenge, so the more thoroughly you explore Bristol, the better your story, even if the odds stay the same.
We’ll announce the winner shortly after Easter Monday!
There’s one more thing…
It wouldn’t be Easter without a chocolate egg, would it? So in true GingerBeard’s fashion, we’ve done something a little unexpected: Cocoa Pickled Eggs.
Yes, you read that correctly. Eggs pickled with chocolate powder. We’re told they actually taste… fine? Intriguing? Surprisingly decent? You’ll just have to try one and decide for yourself. Keep an eye out for them at the participating pubs over the long weekend. Consider them the Easter egg hiding in plain sight.
Why should you bother?
Because it’s a bank holiday weekend and Bristol’s pubs are calling. Because pickled eggs are criminally underrated. Because wandering between great pubs with a map and a mission is a much better plan than anything else you had in mind.
It’s free to take part. There’s nothing to sign up for. Just grab the map, find your first pub, and go from there.
